KNOCKOUT Participant Reviews

"KNOCKOUT has been one of the best classes to get a full body workout plus learn a new skill. It's been a great outlet since retiring from rugby, and Joe is a dedicated instructor. I would recommend this training program to everyone." ~ Christina Chamberlain

"I just love KNOCKOUT Boxing so much! It is an amazing workout, so much fun, and makes me feel so tough! Plus, it's something my teenage son and I can do together! Thank you, for offering such a unique workout. One of the many reasons why The Gymnasium remains the best gym in Rutland! "

Instructor Jon Bottomms Bio: Rest In Peace
1957 - 2024

With 44 years experience in Martial Arts, Jon Bottomms is a master of his craft. He has had training in several different styles of Martial Arts, and was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame in 2004. Jon feels his martial arts practice is a form of meditation that works the body, mind, and spirit.

Jon has been a vital member of the Rutland community for many years. As a personal trainer at The Gymnasium, Jon has extensive experience working with all ages, varying levels of ability, and types of people. For many years, he also taught a high-energy Cardio Kickboxing class on Sunday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. Jon has made a meaningful impact on many lives.

Bruce Lee has always been one of Jon’s biggest inspirations. Jon believes in practicing the discipline that you love, and that it’s crucial for self-mastery to do your best no matter what, or who, is standing in front of you. He is inspired to help others feel healthy and confident in themselves. This quote by Denzel Washington sums up Jon’s life philosophy: “As long as you are breathing, everything is possible. Never quit trying. Make the rest of your life the best of your life.”

In addition to Martial Arts, Jon enjoys strength training, and various cardiovascular activities in the Gym. He loves reading and most of all, spending time with his grandkids.
